Jungle Surfing, 2006 Queensland Tourism Award Winner, will make it's debut involvement in Australian Motorcycle Road Racing this coming weekend, with the Jungle Surfing Suzuki GSX-R 1000 entered in the Superbike support class at the 2008 Australian MotoGP.
Originally Jungle Surfing's Steve Walsh had hoped to pilot the GSX-R around the super fast Phillip Island circuit however a prolonged recovery from previous injuries has ruled him out. Rather than see the Jungle Surfing bike sidelined, the Daintree rainforest based tourism business has formed a partnership with SD Racing's Darren Sciberras to take the reins of the number 43 machine.
While at first glance motorcycle racing may seem an obscure association for an environmentally focussed tourism business, with less environmental impact two-wheeled transport provides an excellent alternative to motorist for their daily commute. The association shows that no matter what activities we are involved with, we all need to be environmentally conscious and focussed. Sometimes small changes in how we do things can have a big affect and motorcycles provide an alternative with a sense of adventure not dissimilar to Jungle Surfing Canopy Tours themselves.
In a weekend of first for Jungle Surfing and SD Racing, this will also be the first time Darren has competed on a 1000cc Superbike and it will be an exciting challenge to come to grips with the awesome power of a modern Superbike. A recent 2 day test at Phillip Island was Daz's first real opportunity to come to terms with the bigger bike, while we made steady progress we expect to have our work cut out just to get into the top 20. |
