A Dizzy Super Daz on the Road to Recovery but will miss Symmons Plains - 9-5-2007

Daz resorted to alternative practicing methods....

Six weeks since an abundance of ambition mixed with a lack of ability resulted in SD Racing's Darren Sciberras fracturing his pelvis in two places, we are pleased to report he is well down the road to a full recovery. Considering such a heavy impact with the tarmac and the injuries sustained Daz is doing remarkably well and has started walking without the aid of his crutches. Daz has also been suffering from a few dizzy spells since the accident but they too are now subsiding and are not expected to have any lasting affects..you can't really damage what's not there in the first place!

Even though Daz is doing so well the number 91 Megacycle R6 still won't be in action in round 5 of the GYTR Superstock cup at Tasmania 's Symmons Plains. Seeing there is no possibility of fighting for a good result in the championship it would be a bit stupid (yes never stopped him before) to take such a risk when a fall could be as disastrous as his riding style to the recovery process.

With Darren's wheelchair bound for the first couple of weeks the team sought some alternative measures to keep his 'race eye' in. Let's just say it didn't go quite to plan.

That behind us Darren has now started his physiotherapy treatment at the North Melbourne Physiotherapy Center with, Suzuki Racesafe regular, Mark Backway. Mark will be helping Darren re build the lost strength in his muscles, in particular his back and right leg, but Mark has been extremely happy with the Darren's faster than normal progress thus far.

Same end result though!!!!

Lisa has been on nurse duties for quite some time now. (Note image may not be totally accurate)

Daz reflected on the past six weeks. "It's a bit frustrating because I want to ride and I know within myself that I could definitely ride by Symmons Plains, maybe not too 100% but then again I never could! If I was in the championship hunt there would be no question and I would be out there but I'm not so I don't see the point to take such a big risk."

To be honest I have been extremely fortunate and if you were to fracture your pelvis I don't think you could ask for a better experience than I have had. This may sound a little crazy but in a way I have actually really enjoyed the last few weeks, Lisa has been bloody amazing! She has fussed over me, done absolutely everything I have needed and not once complained or been crumpy, she has been more than amazing...Although she was kind of pleased that I didn't need assistance wiping my butt, maybe I should of strung her a long for a little while for a laugh?"

"I have also been using an Electroregnisis Jai Machine, the same technology sponsoring the Electroregenisis Team of Gareth Jones and Chris Seaton. I gotta say that I definitely think there is some merit in it. I don't know if it's some miracle device that you just strap on once and it will heal anything but I definitely believe that it does aid the body's natural healing process. Unfortunately given my uncanny knack of hurtling myself through gravel traps around this fine land of ours, I don't think this will be the last time I will need to use one!"

"So all in all I am feeling much better which is a far cry from only a few weeks ago when I didn't know weather or not I would return from a trip to the toilet..the strains that activity can put on your body are interesting when doing so with a fractured pelvis, let me tell you!"

"I will defiantly be back for the QLD double header at the end of June but for now I will just be concentrating on the next stage of the healing process, commonly referred to as the 'milking it' stage. Something tells me I am gonna be pretty good at it too!"

Now with Darren well on the way with his super recovery, SD Racing's other rider, Lisa Brothers will resume her riding at this weekend's (May 12 th and 13 th ) Round 2 of the MRRDA series at Winton Raceway.

An excited Lisa commented, "I can't wait to get back out on the track with all the Formula 400 gang, although I have hardly done a lap for about 5 months so I think its going to take some time to get up to speed. The thing is people don't realize that Dazza's injuries have been super tough on me too! Sure there's the looking after him side of things but also he has been quite sore so I have had to fight back the temptation to throw myself all over him, now that's been tough!!!!!!"

SD Racing would like to say a big thanks to everyone for their kind thoughts and wishes and we can't wait to get back out there and see you all.
