A good weekend for the team

A cold winter's weekend saw SD Racing's good form continue at Broadford for Round 2 of the Hartwell Club Championships. Both Lisa Brothers and Ian Wiltshire did the team proud bringing home a bag of trophies in their respective classes, Formula 400 Novice and 600cc Expert. However the weekend wasn't all smooth sailing for the team, Lisa suffered brake failure during practice and a blown engine on the Saturday while Ian had to battle a badly worn rear tyre during Sunday's race.

But the real drama unfolded during Ian's first championship race on the Sunday, a 1 st lap crash left 3 riders injured, one of them being air lifted to hospital. The quick response of all the officials, Ambulance and Racesafe crew, saw the race red flagged immediately and we are glad to report that all riders escaped without serious injury although our thoughts go out to John Schneider and we wish him a quick recovery. The delay caused Sunday's program to be shortened meaning that each class would only have 1 championship race as opposed to the customary 2.

Lisa was first on the program and was keen to recover from a disappointing Saturday that saw her finish 8 th in race 1 and score a DNF in race 2 due to the blown engine. A late night engine swap enabled Lisa to compete in Sunday's program but she still needed to find form after setting disappointing lap times (well for her anyway) during Saturday's action. Starting from grid position 9 it was obvious through her clear visor that she had her race face on and was in no mood to stay there. It was also instantly obvious that while fitting a new visor she had forgotten to fit a Fogcity and would have to battle a fogged up visor for the duration of the race. To her credit she didn't use that excuse to give in and got a good start moving into 6 th by the exit of turn 1. A few not so well planed moves saw her lose a few positions during the opening laps but her lap times began to plummet and the familiar extreme lean angle style had returned. Using the back markers to perfection she pulled off a couple of stunning passes to finish in 5 th overall and was the 1 st placed Novice. The race was an extremely close affair from 2 nd all the way back to 9 th but Megacycle's Ken Onus ran away with the victory as he had done all weekend.

"That was loads of fun and I was pretty satisfied with that ride. I really want to thank Ian and Daz for their work last night", she commented after the race. "I struggled to see with the fogged visor so it took me a few laps to settle down" she added.

The Pom on a Charge

As mentioned above Ian's race started off with high drama and was promptly red flagged but since Ian didn't get away well form grid slot 3, it meant he had another chance to perform one of his famous shot gun starts. Ian had earned grid slot 3 after some impressive racing on Saturday that saw him take 2 nd and 3 rd from grid position 5 in race 1 and race 2 respectively. He also set numerous PB lap times during his stoushes for the lead with Dennis Charlett and Shane Ingram. Excited by the prospect of starting on the front row and on equal terms with Charlett and Ingram, Ian was quickly disappointed on the warm-up lap as he felt his worn rear tyre had given up the ghost and instantly knew he was in for a tuff race. He did his best to deal with the problem and made a good start into 2 nd behind Charlett but with the bike sliding at the hint of any throttle pressure, he quickly circum to the pressure from Ingram to finish a gutsy 3 rd and take home 3 trophies from the weekends adventure.

"It was a struggle to stay in the seat, with the worn tyre the bike wanted to buck me off. It was getting worse so I was glad to see the chequered flag in the end." Ian commented.

Lisa now sits 2 nd in the F400 novice championship while Ian lies 3 rd in the 600 Expert Class.

The SD Racing circus now moves onto WA and SA this weekend and next with Super Daz continuing his GTY-R Australian Superstock Cup campaign where the pressure will be on to continue the teams strong results.
