Round 3 of the Interclub series at Broadford this past weekend saw SD Racing's Ian Wiltshire take his first win on Aussie soil. It's ironic that Ian, and partner Jo, left England to get away from the cold miserable weather, yet it was those very conditions that saw him shine. A damp but drying track greeted the riders for the morning warm-up session and the extremely cold temperature was doing nothing to help enthuse the competitors.

Ian had recovered well from his tumble only the weekend before, still was a little stiff and sore, but ready to race none the less. The format for the day was first a club race for each club which would decide the 3 riders who would represent each club in the two heats of the Team Shield. This would be followed by three races in for each class, Ian contesting the 600 Supersport class and representing Sandringham .

The day started off extremely well with Ian taking what turned out to be a comfortable win in the Sandringham club race, qualifying him for the Team Shield. Against some bigger 1000cc bikes and the fastest of the 600 Supersport riders, Wiltshire did well to score a 4th and 3rd in the 2 heats of the Team Shield, helping Sandringham to 3rd for the day and 2nd in the series. However it was the 600 Supersport races that were the focus and highlight for the team with the 'young' Pom taking the overall win with 2 wins from the 3 races.

Race 1 saw Ian start from 5th on the grid, as the lights went out, signalling the start of the 5 lap sprint, Ian shot off to grab 2nd position into turn 1 behind Riko Partoosh, who was returning to the track after a few months off. Ian quickly grabbed the lead from Partoosh and proceeded to open up a gap that would see him take his first real victory aboard his TW-Performance CBR600RR and on Aussie Soil.

Race 2 saw a similar sight into turn 1 even though Ian had started from pole position which he had earned in race 1. In fact a mediocre start meant that Ian had to fight hard for 2nd position with a very aggressive move into turn 1 to shut the door on the perusing riders. With Riko only a few bike lengths ahead, the pair opened up a slight gap on the rest of the field. Ian chased hard setting a new PB lap time in the process, 60.4, but he couldn't find a way passed Partoosh and would stay in 2nd place for the reminder of the race.

As the team prepped the CBR for race 3 we noted that Riko's bike was be loaded and that he would not be contesting the last of the 3 races. This would certainly make Ian's job easier in the finale but was also a little disappointing as the 2 previous races had been a great contest. Still the job wasn't done yet and their were 20+ other riders that weren't going to lay down. Ian made a great start to take the lead and open up and handy advantage over Higgins in 2nd place. He didn't look back and managed the gap to take another well earned victory and the overall win for the day, a great ride and a big Well Done!!!

With Ian taking his first win for SD Racing, it leaves only one of the team's riders without a victory this year....and we all know who that is!
