The Hartwell club championship moved to Winton Motor Raceway for Round 4 with SD Racing's Ian Wiltshire and Lisa Brothers in action. Miraculously Lisa's TW-Performance CBR400 was rebuilt and ready to race thanks in large to Trevor Manley of TMPerformance and Glen Holland of Shocktek , who's hard work meant Lisa could continue her championship campaign in the Novice class. The first run in practice on CBR400 reviled that not only was the bike back in action but was handling even better than before the Broadford demolition, highlighting the great job done by Manley and Holland. With the bike and Lisa back in full swing, the team was firmly focused on extending her Novice championship lead and trying to get Ian up into the top 3 in the 600 Expert class.

The bike was rebuilt but not pretty but ready to roll

Lisa's Racing

What the? I thought we rebuilt it?

After a poor start in the first of 2 qualifying races Lisa fought hard to make up lost ground to finish 4th outright and 1st Novice. Although Lisa produced a good fight back, it was obvious that she would need to lift in order to run with the leading 3 for the remainder of the weekend. In his last race meeting before heading to the Isle of Man , Megacycle's Ken Onus was keen to stamp on his recently established authority in the Formula 400 class. Although he still took out race 1, it was clear that fellow front runners Tim Podt and Michael Halliday had upped the ante since the last round. This not only made Mega Ken's life more difficult but gave Lisa a wake up call that she wouldn't be getting away with poor start this weekend.

She headed out for the final qualifying race determined with the race eyes on! The lights went out and the change in her mind frame was apparent with her moving into 3rd by turn 2. Sensing the opportunity Lisa pushed hard looking for a way into 2nd all the while Onus tried to find a way passed Lisa from 4th . He tried to find a way around the outside of the flying female but with both riders pushing so hard so early in the race, they collided! It was nothing new for these two but this time Lisa came off 2 nd best and hit the deck for the 2 nd time in 2 race meetings. Thankfully, the concerned on lookers watched as Lisa jumped straight up onto her feet however she was unable to remount continue. Although Mega Ken managed to stay aboard, he pulled out of the race feeling bad that he had come together with Lisa even though it was a racing incident.

Just a bit of girl bashing

FInally, a bike in proportion with his manhood

You really would think that will all his years of experience Ken would be used to encounters with the female variety ending in disaster. Maybe he thought that a helmet covering his head would make things with the girls better, obviously not! Luckily both riders were OK and being a preliminary race no points were lost

The bike was promptly repaired by Lisa's Super Mechanic and Lisa was able to take her 5th position on the grid for Sunday's 2 Championship races. Although it didn't really show, Lisa was hiding some soreness and nerves as a result of her tumble which was always going to make the task ahead even more difficult. She showed guts and worked hard to overcome bad starts in both races to take two very impressive 5th places in the two main races but more importantly was the 1st placed Novice in both. The effort earned her another pair of trophies and a healthy championship lead with only one round of the series remaining which will be held at the end of October at the famous Phillip Island Circuit

Ian's Racing

With the tyre budget in disarray, Ian would have to struggle through Saturday's qualifying with a more than 2 nd hand rear tyre before fitting some fresh rubber on the rear of his TW-Performance CBR600RR for Sunday's main championship races. Ian was also dealt a poor grid position of 6th for the qualifying races to add to his woes, this normally would be a problem for the UK import but his usual canon like starts seemed to elude him all weekend. With a pair of poor starts and a lack of rear grip to harness the power of the CBR600, Ian struggled by his usual standards and finished 7th and 8th in the qualifying races. Still determined to try to move into at least 3rd in the 600 Expert championship, a fresh rear tyre was fitted for Sunday's championship races but the extra challenge of starting further back in 8th against Expert field was added.

The poor starts from Saturday followed onto Sunday and if anything got worse but Ian had found a little extra pace from the more compliant rear tyre. Try as he did, the damage from Saturday and the poor starts was done and Ian could only manage 7th in Race 1 and 8th in race 2 providing some entertainment with a couple of exciting battles with Dale Broadfoot. Although he was disappointed not to be further up, to Ian's credit he didn't give in all weekend even though some of the circumstances were not in his control. He did the team proud by scoring valuable points which keeps in the hunt for a top 3 championship result and by keeping a positive attitude during a tough weekend.
