The third and final round of the Victorian Road Race Championships on the 12th & 13th of August 2006 saw SD Racing score its first ever championship victory, but it certainly wasn't all smooth sailing. The two day affair at the famous Phillip Island circuit dished out problem after problem for the team but some how Lisa Brothers managed to emerge as the 2006 Victorian Formula 400 C grade Champion. Super Daz had a weekend to forget but the overall series results weren't so bad for the not so super performer with 3rd in Superstock and 3rd in C Grade Supersport Championship.

Things started off very upbeat, Lisa's CBR400 had undergone an amazing transformation thanks to the incredible paint job by Eruo Pro and awesome custom graphics by the team's major sponsor, TW-Performance . However the up beat mood wasn't to last, on the first outing Lisa reported back into the pits with mechanical gremlins. Despite the unrelenting work from the pit crew and the usual flock of willing helpers, the little CBR would not cooperate. Friday practice would end with Lisa hardly turning a wheel and the team still puzzled.

Our first ever champ on her freshly painted bike

Lisa hits the deck, superbly captured byStephen Piper

A good night's sleep did the trick and the team was able to resolve the problems before the first qualifying session, a big thanks to all who helped! With little time for Lisa to dust off the cobwebs, the best she could manage in qualifying was 1:52.2 which would see her start from 7th position for the 3 upcoming races.

With the gremlins sorted, the bike looking fantastic and a healthy points lead, things looked good for Lisa to secure the C grade championship as race 1 approached. But just when the pit crew thought it was time to relax, bang! For the third meeting in a row Lisa hit the tarmac in a thudding crash at turn 4. This time she managed to do it all by herself, later admitting that brain fade was the sole cause. Thankfully she was ok and Stephen Piper caught the crash with some amazing photos. Unfortunately the bike was badly damaged and would not be ready for race 1 meaning Lisa was in threat of losing her points lead.

Luckily a spare bike floating around the paddock was offered to Lisa, a massive thank you to Cappa for his generosity! She mounted the unfamiliar bike for race 1 and did what she needed, taking 7th overall and 3rd placed C grader behind Scott Travers and Stuart Shaw . The team busily got to work on repairing the banged up CBR for Sunday's two races and although not as pretty as the previous day, it was ready to roll. Race 2 saw Lisa take 8th overall and 2nd C grader which was enough for her to secure the C grade title no matter what happened in race 3. Race three was eventually cancelled due to time limitations leaving Lisa as the 2006 Formula 400 C grade Champion! She also managed to take the round win on a count back, a result that looked impossible earlier in the weekend.

In her first full season of racing, Lisa not only did the team very proud by wining the C grade championship but also showed great courage by mixing it with the boys and digging deep to overcome a few hard knocks along they way, well done Lisa! SD Racing would also like to extend its congratulations to Stuart Shaw and Paul Cassingham for their 2nd and 3rd places respectively.

A huge thanks to Cappa for the loan bike!!!

Daz didn't seem very happy with his weekend

Darren's weekend was anything but super. For a number of reasons the YZF-R6 was not working well and with the team's focus needed on Lisa's bike, answers for the problems were not found. Daz struggled to find form in weekend that saw his worst performance of the season. The only highlights were a few exhilarating passes into turn 1 on the first lap and a couple of impressive saves as the unwilling R6 tried to buck him off. The most disappointing aspect of Darren's weekend was that he didn't give it everything in Sunday morning's race. It was the first time in his short racing career that he had not given his all and something that he was not at all proud of. The last race of the day saw a respirited Daz give absolutely everything and although the results were anything but impressive, a personal satisfaction was achieved.

The wash up has heralded a number of answers for the weekend's struggle and Daz is looking for a return to form at the upcoming Tasmanian round of the Australian Superbike Championship.

SD Racing would like to extend congratulations to Chris Trounson, Ben Scott and Craig Nicholson who beast Darren in the series.

Although it was a tough weekend the team was extremely happy with the end result and is very proud of our new champ. A huge thank you to all our sponsors and supporters whom without none of this would be possible.
