The 4th round of the Interclub series saw Ian back in the saddle and upholding the team's honours at the Winton Raceway circuit. A cold and wet morning greeted the team at their arrival at the circuit. To make things worse a thick blanket of fog had descended, making visibility difficult and racing impossible. A delayed start to the day was inevitable. Ian was trying a new type of Bridgestone front tyre and a set of forks reworked by TM Performance's Trevor Manley and would need as much track time as possible to fine tune the setup.

After a damp practice, the first Sandringham Open Race saw Ian on pole position. With the suspension settings not quite perfect yet and large covering of oil at turn 7, Ian used his head and set a steady pace. Ian won the race ahead of Scott Pertzel to assure his place in the team shield event.

Not sure what's more crazy, racing motorcycles or walking around Winton without a jacket!

The 2 600 races ( the 3rd was cancelled due the delayed start ) were the main focus of the day.  With Ian having a 19 point lead in the championship it was very important to gain maximum point's for the championship and not do anything stupid with this and only 1 other round to follow in the series. Ian achieved his aim and with some smart riding, finished 2nd in both races and so finished 2nd over all for the day. More importantly extended his lead in the championship over 2nd placed Danny Higgins.  After the first race Ian commented, "Boof got me off the line, so I followed him and thought I could make a pass, but it would have been too tight. I'm happy to settle for 2nd today and extend my lead in the championship."

The Team shield races which are open to bikes with any engine size, were exciting for both  the riders involved and spectators.

Race 1. Ashley Roe (cbr1000) set a cracking pace at the front closely followed by Ian (cbr600) and Scott.(cbr1000)  Scott managed to pass Ian for 2nd , but as Ian and Scott both represent Sandringham and this being a team event 2nd and 3rd for Sandringham was a great result.

Race 2. Ian finished a close fought 5th after a poor start. But at the end of the day with the team points totalled, the Sandringham team of Ian, Scott and Andrew collected the win and the trophy's for the team shield event and moved the Sandringham club to the top of the table ahead of Preston and the others.

We are now looking forward to the next event, where the Australian Superbike Championship will make its first appearance in Tasmania for many years and Daz will be taking on the Nations best up and comers.
