The 2006 Hartwell Club Championship came to a thrilling close this past weekend at the wild and windy Phillip Island circuit and SD Racing was once again amongst the spoils. Lisa Brothers secured her second 2006 title from as many attempts aboard TW-Performance CBR400 but even more impressive was that fact that she managed to keep the bloody thing upright all weekend! But as has been the case all too many times this year the team did have some crash repairs to contend with, Ian decided to contribute to crash tally taking the team's total spills to 13 for the year. Despite his tumble through the gravel trap, Ian still managed to close his 2006 Hartwell campaign with a well deserved 3rd place.

One of Lisa's better days at the office. No crashes, no offs but best of all, no broken finger nails!

Since taking the Victorian Formula 400 C grade Championship, back in August, Lisa had enjoyed some time off to recharge while the CBR was sent down to Shocktek to have the frame straightened. From the get go it was obvious that the break had done the world of good and the flying female was more than ready to resume her charge towards the 2006 Hartwell Formula 400 Novice Championship. After Saturday's qualifying races Lisa secured a starting position of 9th overall but more importantly the 1st novice ahead of her championship rival Duane Warns. In the first of two championship races Lisa smashed her previous personal best lap time with an impressive 1:48.8 on her way to 9th overall and once again 1st placed novice. As impressive as her performance was it was overshadowed by the exhilarating four way battle for the win which included Megacycle's Ken Onus and suspension guru Trevor Manley. The exciting battle saw Mega Ken exit the final turn in 1st place only to be drafted and relegated to 4th as they reached the chequred flag with Manley in 2nd behind Michael Haliday with Jack Fox in 3rd .

All that was required of Lisa in race 2 was a finish in the points and just as well! A slight drizzle uncovered Lisa's lack of experience in changeable weather and lapping much slower than the conditions warranted and she was well beaten by Duane . "Gee I rode like a girl!" she commented, still it was enough and Lisa was wrapped to take the 2006 Hartwell Formula 400 Novice Championship in impressive style. In fact so impressive was Lisa's Novice year she will race 2007 as an Expert skipping the Non Expert ranking. A big well done to Lisa for not only bringing home the results but also proving that the girls can mix it with the boys. Once the helmet was removed, the hair and makeup sorted she had time to reflect on her 2006 season.

Lisa Brothers : "Wow! I am wrapped with how things went this year, it's been awesome fun. I've had an absolute ball racing in the Formula 400 class, I love the close racing and competition it provides. I have had a few falls that have knocked my confidence at times but I have been lucky to have so much great help and I am wrapped with how much my riding has improved. I have learnt so much about riding and setting up the bike although it's fair to say I still have a way to go yet in that department. I would like to thank Megacycle's Ken Onus for all his help this year and I'm happy we were able to be on the same track without smashing into each other this weekend, even if it was because I couldn't get near him, LOL. Also Ian has spent many hours fixing my crashed bike, so thanks and oops. Trevor Manley.uuummm...I am not really sure what he does but I know after he works on the suspension I go faster so he is a good sort of bloke to have around. Of course thanks to TW-Performance, Shocktek and everyone that has been involved with SD Racing this year. But even with all this help I know I couldn't have done any of this without Daz! He does so much work behind the scenes and he is the best teacher, I've learnt so much from him.. although he still knows stuff all about dusting trophies, so thanks!"

It was a determined Lisa on her way to her 2nd 2006 title

Despite a fall the pom got the job done

Ian had a tough weekend aboard the TW-Performance CBR600 which started with a crash during the second Saturday's qualifying races. It was nothing too savvier and the bike was fixed in next to no time thanks to the extra help from Russell Baker. Even with the spill Ian started Sunday's championship races on the front row in 4th position. Struggling a bit for form Ian finished Race 1 in 7th and Race 2 in 8th but it was enough to earn him 3rd overall in the 2006 Hartwell 600 Expert Championship, another big well done!!. Ian still has the interclub series to complete this year and with one round to go he has a healthy points lead.

Ian Wiltshire : " The crash was a strange one, you don't normally loose the front while you're on the gas. It went down so fast, I didn't have a chance to attempt a save. Luckily for me, it happened in the qualifier rather than the championship race. A big thankyou goes out to Darren, Lisa and Russell who got the bike race ready for me and to all my competitors who offered the lend of spare parts to get me back on the track. You got to love our racing community, where else would do that?

Sunday championship races were tough. Lots of guy's doing fast times. It was going to take a miracle for me to get second but my third place was a bit more vulnerable. I was a bit off pace due the pressure of the crash but I did what I had to do and made sure I followed Craig home for a safe finish in each race.

We have a bit of repair work to do before the bike is ready for the final round of the Interclub. The Zaks fairing's and Valtermoto rearsets took a bit of a pounding but we have spares and will be all fixed up in time.

I feel confident we can finish this series with a good result. "

As usual the Formula 400s provided great racing

Another notable performance was from one of SD Racing's traveling buddies, Russell Baker. After working hard in the National Superstock series this year for not a lot of reward, he made a return to club racing in the Non Expert 600 class. After working his way from the back of the gird, he netted three 2nd place results for the weekend with some great riding, especially as he was on Superstock tyres compared with his competitors on more grippy rubber, well done Russ!
