A sickening hi-side accident in the first race of round 2 of the 2007 GYTR Australian Superstock Cup saw SD Racing's Darren Sciberras sidelined for the remainder of the historic double header weekend. After a disappointing qualifying performance, Daz had worked hard to move up from his staring position of 10 th into 3 rd place with less than one lap remaining before the spectacular accident left him with a fractured pelvis.

"Approaching turn 3 I suddenly realized that one of the braking markers that I had been using had disappeared. I smashed the brakes as hard as I could but it was a little too late to take a conventional line through the turn and I missed the apex by a fair bit causing me to run wide. Still I didn't panic and just waited until I had washed off enough speed before I thought about getting back on the throttle but then I started to lose the front. I had to pick up the throttle to stop the front end slide and that's when things started to get a little nasty! The track was bone dry but the morning drizzle had left the white lines on the edge of the track slippery and as I continued to drift wide the rear tyre hit the white line. Before I knew it the rear spun up big time and I was lunched over the handle bars and way up into the air. I almost couldn't believe how high I was, I forgot to pack my Super Daz cape so I had no way to land safely and knew this was really going hurt, sure enough it did. My right hip smacked the tarmac with brutal force and from that point I was in a heap of pain, I guess Super Daz is more and man of cardboard than a man of steel."

"The Suzuki Racesafe team were amazing, they arrived on the scene as quick as a flash and from that point on I knew I was in good hands. They were so professional and totally focused on looking after me. I want to say a huge thanks to them all and also the staff at Wangaratta hospital, there efforts made this whole experience as comfortable as possible. Also my fiancée Lisa has been absolutely amazing, I know my recovery will be so much easier with her support and help."

We also need to say a big thank you to Russ, Trev, Marg, Adam, Ken, Jacky and all the well wishers, their help and messages of support has been great! It amazing how wonderful people are in times of need, we appreciate all there efforts so much.

Luckily the facture to Darren's pelvis is not displaced meaning that no surgery or pinning is required and he should be able to make a full recovery. The fall wasn't hard enough to knock any sense into Super Daz and he is already looking forward to making a come back to racing when he has healed. Malalla and Symons Plains are definitely out of the question but hopefully the number 91 machine will be back in action for the Queensland double header at the end of June but time will only tell.

Unfortunately the incident will also put a halt to Lisa's racing for a little while as she attends to her needy team mate.

Thanks again to all the well wishers and we hope to see you all soon.
