Much like his bedroom performances, Darren Sciberras' comeback to the GYTR Australian Superstock Cup was extremely short lived. The SD Racing rider was forced to retire from the event in spectacular fashion towards the end of Thursday practice for the double header weekend at Queensland Raceway.

Crashing out was certainly not the result we were looking for especially considering Daz was returning from such a substantial injury, thankfully he was not hurt at all and we can honestly say this crash was through no fault of the rider. Entering the fast turn 2 Darren literally 'lost' the front sending him into the tarmac for what seemed like a pretty harmless, although fast, low side crash. Upon coming to a halt from the speedy slide across the tarmac Daz, somewhat bemused by the nature of the fall, precariously found himself covered in oil.

"I really didn't see that coming, I honestly wasn't quiet on the limit and still riding a little safe trying to overcome my mental demons. All of a sudden the front just let go and I was on my butt. Luckily I didn't hurt myself at all and didn't do any damage to my pelvis." Daz commented.

Upon further inspection the cause of the accident became apparent, metal fatigue at the base of the forks which lead to them cracking. It's not 100% clear if leaking fork oil spilled onto the front tyre causing the incident or the fork completely failed however we have ruled out any rider error. It's fair to say that this particular set of forks have been subjected to somewhat of a hard life and a number of impacts, still the fact that they failed so dramatically was certainly a shock. The spacer between the handle bars and seat certainly put them through a very though life over the past year and a half and the lesson learnt is the team needs to adopt much more strict inspection and replacement policies. We are extremely fortunate and thankful that it was the bike that came off second best and not the rider. The images speak for themselves but the condition of the bike is probably best described as a steamy pile of poo.

All attempts were made to get back out on the track and a huge thank you has to go out to ElectroRegenesis Racing for lending as many parts as they could, however the damage was too savvier and sadly we were forced to retire from the event.

On the positive side Thursday practice saw Daz well inside the top 10 with the 4 th and 8 th fastest times in practice 1 and 2 which was a pretty good first up effort on his return.

Looking ahead we would like to be able to compete in the final round at Eastern Creek in August however repairs will be very expensive and at this stage it looks to be a difficult assignment. Still we will do everything we can and hopefully this won't be the last that you will see of us in 2007.

Thanks again to Electorregiunis Racing, Trevor Manley from TMPerformance and all our partners.
