Disappointing Debut Supersport Season Coming to a Close for SD Racing's Super Daz - 30/09/08

Result Summary

SD Racing's 'assault' on the 2008 Australian Supersport Championship has been...well....crap really, trying sum up our season any other way would simply be inaccurate. Team rider Darren Sciberras has struggled to come to terms with his YZF-R6 and certainly hasn't produced anything 'Super' other than the list of excuses as to why. To be fair there have been some legitimate hardships faced, ranging from electrical gremlins to mechanical issues, which have not helped our plight but at the end of the day we simply haven't got the job done.

The Australian Supersport Championship is a very tough and competitive field and expecting to be fully competitive in our first season would have been very ambitious, especially given the fact that after all it is 'Super Daz' ridding the bike, however we had hoped to do better than we have. Currently Daz is sitting 20th in the championship standings with his best result being 11th in Round 3, Race 1 at Winton Raceway. With only the MotoGP Support Races plus one more round of the National series remaining, Daz will need to seriously pull his finger out to avoid being the axed, however making most of the team decisions himself might be a saving factor.

On the positive side the SD Racing machine has remained mostly upright this season with only two crashes in all testing, practice and racing so that certainly is an improvement in that area. Also their hasn't been one time throughout the season that we haven't given it our best shot, and that is not always easy when the results are simply not there.

At least it looks like Daz knows what he is doing....looks can be deceiving though!

Daz's comments: "I seriously have to thank everyone around me for all their support. Despite my lack of results they have given their all and been nothing but hard working and supportive. We have struggled this year and the blame has to lay squarely with me, still not once have they given up on me. I am disappointed that I have not been able to produce better results for the hard work put in especially by Trevor Manley and Russell Baker, every time I have asked for a change in the bike setup or any work to be done it has been done impeccably and I wish I could have got the results the suspension and setup on my R6 deserve. Also thanks to Ken Onus at Megacycle he, as always, has given all his time, effort, advice, and Dyno facilities, whenever required, so that has been great!

As always Lisa has been totally supportive and I wouldn't be racing and doing what I love doing if it wasn't for her, so thanks! At least I know she likes me for more than my riding ability, LOL!

Anyway we won't let a bad season stop us and although budget is going to be a serious challenge in 2009, we will be doing our all to be out there again next year."

Looking forward we have the MotoGP support races this coming weekend at Phillip Island where we will have the very exciting opportunity to race the Jungle Surfing GSX-R 1000, our first outing in the Superbike class!
